AGWSR Cougar Baseball

Senior Broder Roder and head Cougar baseball coach Dave Showalter are happy to see the season start no matter how late or with what restrictions. Official lay begins June 15 statewide.

When Gov. Kim Reynolds announced on May 20 that the summer baseball and softball seasons could begin on June 1, one big question was answered. It also led to a lot more questions.

By the time AGWSR’s teams take the field for their first practice, they will already be about a month behind. By the time they play their first game on June 15, they will be more than two weeks behind. The schedule is being hashed out, with only the North Iowa Cedar League-West portion as planned. The final schedule will be determined, with all games prior to June 15 being canceled outright.

AGWSR co-head softball coaches Scott O'Brien and Brenda Drake, seen before a State Tournament game in 2018, were hoping for a chance to just have a season this summer. With last week's announcement that softball and baseball can begin on June 1, they got their chance to return to Fort Dodge.
