Ackley native Leo Keninger was on duty in the dynamo room when the ship was torpedoed. IMG_5963.JPG Buy Now On a bright December morning, nieces and nephews of Leo Keninger met inside the Ackley American Legion Post 252 to discuss their options. After Leo’s death at Pearl Harbor, the Post took on the Keninger name becoming the Elliot Keninger Post 252. Merle Elliot was the first Ackley native to be killed in WWI – Keninger the first in WWII.
