ACKLEY - Darlene Ulfers passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at MercyOne in Waterloo under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice due to complications associated with late stage Alzheimer’s disease. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 7, at St. John’s U.C.C. in Ackley with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, June 6, from 5-7 p.m. at the Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley.

Darlene Ruth Ulfers was born Feb. 7, 1932, to Dick and Caroline (Kreimeyer) Ackerman at the family home in Butler County. She was baptized in June 1932 in the Washington Reformed Church. On March 16, 1955, she was united in marriage to Chris “Bud” Ulfers at her parents’ home in rural Butler County. To this union was born a daughter, Darla, and a son, David. Darlene was a farmer’s wife until moving to Ackley in 1986. After moving to town, she was employed at the Big Chief and finally The Pizza Ranch. Darlene always loved to garden, can the vegetables from that garden, cook and bake. In June 2014, she moved to Rosewood Estates in Waterloo, after the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. While at Rosewood, she enjoyed her time participating in many activities. Her favorites were the church services, Bible Study and bingo. Through all of this with her mind slowly being taken away, she always kept her strong faith and her love for her family.
