Influenza Precautions

Nursing homes throughout the county are revving up their flu precautions after one reported a confirmed case. Signs like this one at Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls, as well as hand sanitizer and masks encourage visitors to help prevent the spread of the illness.

With confirmed cases of influenza in one Hardin County nursing home, the rest are doing everything they can to make sure it doesn’t spread to them. So far, it’s worked.

“We don’t have influenza at either facility, knock on wood,” said Suzie Eichmeier, administrator of Eldora Specialty Care and Valley View Nursing Center in Eldora. “We’ve done a whole lot of extra cleaning, a lot of sanitizing. And, when people have something respiratory, even if it’s not influenza A or B, we try to limit visitors.”
