Well Four

The Iowa Falls Water Department is taking precautions with its infrastructure near the Iowa River in case another ice jam were to occur like it did in 2019. Pictured here is Well No. 4 located just off of River Road.

It's been nearly two years since Iowa Falls was forced to jump into action when an ice jam sent hundreds of tons of ice over the banks of the Iowa River and threatened to flood essential infrastructure, including the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Luckily that day hundreds of professionals and volunteers worked tirelessly to create sandbag barriers and restore lost power in parts of town. This year however, city officials believe they are better prepared than ever before should the ice become a problem again.

Large chunks of ice cover River Road in Iowa Falls. The ice was pushed over the road when the river flooded, and was left as water receded. This photo was taken in March of 2019.
