Community Gardens

The Eldora Community Gardens will have an official ribbon-cutting ceremony and picnic from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday. Pictured are organizers Nicole Low (left) and Crystal Carroll.

What used to be an empty lot with nothing growing but wild grasses will soon be teeming with just about every veggie you can grow in Iowa.

Preparation and construction work at the Eldora Community Garden is almost finished and a ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Saturday. None of the fruits of the labor on the acre of city-donated land located north of the Hardin County Fairgrounds Grandstand would have been possible without the work of Nicole Low and Crystal Carroll.

The Eldora Community Garden hopes to donate at least 700 pounds of produce to local food pantries this year.
