Nuisance Abatement

This rental property (at 311 Washington St.) in Alden is one of a few nuisance properties the Alden City Council hopes to clean up in the near future. Several Hardin County communities have said they're willing to participate in a standard nuisance abatement program. They're awaiting the hiring of a code enforcement officer. Once that step is taken, the program will begin.

The push to create a county-wide nuisance abatement enforcement plan isn’t dead according to those who want the program to live.

Two years ago, Hardin County embarked on a creative placemaking process. Representatives from area cities met for brainstorming sessions with employees from McClure Engineering. The cities wanted to work together to make Hardin County a more desirable place to live, and spur economic development. Creative placemaking assists communities with their objectives to achieve economic and population growth through cultural and entrepreneurial projects.
