Iowa Falls-Alden High School

Preliminary plans call for construction of a new preschool through fifth grade elementary school off the southwest corner of Iowa Falls-Alden High School (pictured in the aerial photo above).

It’s been almost 50 years since Iowa Falls saw the construction of a new school building. Next year, voters in the district will be asked to end that streak by approving a tax increase that would raise millions of dollars to replace two 80-plus-year-old buildings with a new elementary school.

On Monday this week, the Iowa Falls School Board moved closer to finalizing plans for that vote, which is being planned for March. If the board follows through with what it discussed this week, and if it gets approval from voters, the bond's total would be about $28 million, and it would raise property taxes in the district by an estimated $3.74 per $1,000 of taxable valuation.
