Joint Mask Meeting

Michael Rundall, South Hardin High School principal and father of two younger students, took his turn at the May 17, 2021 special joint meeting of the Hubbard-Radcliffe and Eldora-New Providence school boards to express his hope that the mask mandate stay in place for the final 12 days of classes. New IDPH guidelines however changed both boards' stance on the matter. They voted to lift the mandate and to make masks optional.

The writing was pretty much on the wall when the Iowa Department of Public Health changed its guidance on the use of masks in public schools. Guidance released Friday afternoon said Iowa school districts should allow parents and students to decide whether or not to wear masks or other face coverings to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Both the Hubbard-Radcliffe and Eldora-New Providence boards agreed to lift their mask mandates during a special joint meeting Monday night in Hubbard. One E-NP Board member voted against lifting the mask requirement with just 12 school days remaining in the year.

At least ENP has one board member who displayed common sense. Thank you, Ms. Herring.
