Cradle of The American Cream Draft Horse

A new Radcliffe welcome sign was unveiled last week. It identifies the community as home of the American Cream Draft Horse.

C.T. Rierson

C.T. Rierson, of Radcliffe, is credited with developing the uniquely American Cream Draft Horse breed.

Clair Rierson was the Iowa State University head baseball coach for a while. He spent years as a scout for the Minnesota Twins and Los Angeles Dodgers. But what he’s known for in an old and again-growing circle is being C.T. Rierson’s grandson.

To Clair, C.T. was always just “Grandpa.”

American Cream Draft Horse

The American Cream Draft Horse was a breed developed in Radcliffe. With the re-birth of interest in the breed in recent years, ACDHA honored that fact with a plaque at the original barn that C.T. Rierson created the breed. The association also erected a sign on the Radcliffe sign touting the town as the "Cradle of the American Cream Draft Horse."

Karen Topp

Karene (Bunker) Topp was the original and long-standing secretary of the American Cream Draft Horse Association. She helped resurrect the group and her detailed notes survived her passing and gave history to the association.
