Ruth Halvorsen

Family and consumer science teacher Ruth Halvorsen leads students through a recipe in a food and nutrition class. Halvorsen said she enjoys teaching students “employable skills” that they can use in life.

Ruth Halvorsen has always liked school, and that eventually led her to a career teaching at South Hardin High School.

The family and consumer science instructor has been at the Eldora school for 27 years, but she didn’t go into teaching right away. The St. Anthony native married an Eldora man after college and they spent time running a 150,000 laying hen operation. In the midst of that, Halvorsen also had three young children at home.
