A local girl, AGWSR High School English teacher Julie Rau grew up on a farm near Iowa Falls. She chose a career in teaching based on a natural instinct from teaching her own children reading.
As a high school grad, Rau’s first career choice was forestry, but marriage and children – well, life in general – happened before she could follow through. By the time she returned to college, she realized quickly that her skills as a parent should be used for education. She pursued her degree at the University of Northern Iowa. By age 35, she was teaching at Alden, where she remained for six years. She also taught night classes at Ellsworth Community College before getting a job at AGWSR.
