Iowa Newspaper Foundation

The Times Citizen and Ackley World Journal newspapers, which are owned by Times Citizen Communications in Iowa Falls, collected more than four dozen awards in this year’s Iowa Newspaper Foundation Better Newspaper Contest. The awards are usually presented during a convention in Des Moines, but because of the continuing coronavirus pandemic, the convention and awards ceremony were conducted virtually this month. The awards were announced on Feb. 11.

There were approximately 3,000 entries in dozens of categories that were judged by class, based on circulation. The Times Citizen competes in Weekly Class 3, which is newspapers that are published weekly with a circulation of at least 1,501. The Ackley World Journal competes in Weekly Class 1, which is newspapers that are published weekly with a maximum circulation of 910.
