Operation Christmas Meal

Iowa Select Farms employee Audra Morgan helped hand out 500 pork loins and an equal amount of free vouchers Friday in Iowa Falls. The Iowa Falls-based company will have given away 18,000 pork loins for those in need this holiday season by the time the Operation Christmas Meal tour wraps up in Pocahontas on Monday.

What started as a simple holiday giveaway at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, has turned into a Christmas tradition in several Iowa communities as Iowa Select handed out pork loins for the holiday for a second-straight year. A year ago, the Iowa Falls-based company handed out 15,000 loins. This year, Iowa Select communications specialist Allyson Ladd said they will be giving away 18,000.

Unlike food pantries and other food-related agencies, Ladd said Iowa Select is giving away the four to five-pound pork delicacy to whoever wants one. Those in need are the particular target, but she knows that the loins will end up where they are truly needed.
