Recycling Trade

Recycling materials, mainly cardboard, have been backing-up at the Hardin County Recycling Center. The item has been hard to sell since China stopped buying it. Tariffs haven't helped.

Recyclables collected in Hardin County are sold to brokers around the United States. From there, materials like cardboard, plastic and tin are sold worldwide.

While it’s hardly been a lucrative business to begin with, recent changes have caused the bottom to fall out of it. Iowa Falls City Manager Jody Anderson is chairman of the Hardin County Solid Waste Commission. He said tariffs and other factors have affected prices.
