River Road Washout

Crews used a fire hose like a pressure washer to get the final layer of mud and silt off of River Road after a hillside washed out Tuesday night. The road is expected to be reopened today.

River Road in Iowa Falls is shut down Wednesday after a troublesome hillside washed out over the roadway Tuesday night.

City Manager Jody Anderson said the hillside that washed out has been a problem spot ever since much of the vegetation was removed when Motorola Solutions Inc. constructed a 425-foot communications tower for the State of Iowa last year. The potential for a washout was brought to the attention of the Iowa Falls City Council and other officials in May 2018.
