Winter Rec Fest

Iowa Falls' 2016 Winter Rec Fest enjoyed sunny skies in the morning, and mild temperatures Jan. 30.

The unseasonable warmth of the last few weeks, while it's been welcome by the winter-haters among us, is wreaking havoc on what was supposed to have been the eighth annual Iowa Falls Winter Rec Fest.

The Iowa River is free flowing through Iowa Falls this week, and with high temperatures in the 10-day forecast hovering at or above the freezing mark, there’s little hope the water will freeze to depths that make on-ice activities safe.

Silly Sally, a children's entertainer from Ames, performed for dozens of children Saturday afternoon at the Boat Club during Winter Rec Fest.

Snowshoes are available for check-out at the Barlow Memorial Library in Iowa Falls. There are 16 pairs - 10 adults and six children. A library card-holder can check out up to three pairs for two days. The snowshoes belong to the Winter Rec Fest, and were purchased with past rec fest proceeds.
