To the Editor:

On behalf of the City of Iowa Falls Wastewater Treatment Facility, I would like to extend our gratitude to the overwhelming number of volunteers who showed up for sandbagging efforts. While I, like most of you, throughout the years, have seen on the news other communities coming together for the common good, I have never personally witnessed it. From the young lady who must have walked from downtown to the older gentleman who brought his own shovel, these people came alone with nothing to prove to anyone except to lend a helping hand, to the local businesses who sent some or all of their employees to assist us, it really says a lot about their commitment to our community. Also, much appreciated were the anonymous individuals, and local businesses like Theisen’s, Hy-Vee, Walmart, and Culligan who donated food and supplies for the volunteers, which was awesome. A special thanks is also due to Ellsworth Community College for rounding up student athletes. Those kids moved a lot of sandbags. I assume they were not as sore as I was the next day!
