To the Editor:

Life in small town Iowa is supposed to be safe, welcoming, a place where neighbors take care of one another. No one thinks they will become the victim of a crime, especially in small town Iowa. But it happened to my family, and I learned firsthand how the criminal justice system treats victims like they do not matter.
