A weekend that began with so much excitement for Iowa college basketball fans ended pretty abruptly Sunday night. It’s difficult to not be disappointed; Iowa, Iowa State and UNI all had pretty favorable positions in the bracket, especially following a couple upsets along the way. But it was a great season for all three. ISU with a second straight Big 12 Tournament title, Iowa finally completing its basketball resurrection behind senior First Team B1G 10 class act Aaron White, and UNI with perhaps its best regular season in history on the shoulders of semi-local product Seth Tuttle of Sheffield.
I’m a UNI grad so I’ll always have a fair amount of allegiance to the Panthers. And my heart was really behind them this season after their respectful treatment of Dale and the Howard family in the wake of the Iowa Falls businessman’s passing. But I’ve always been a Hawkeye fan. And this team went a long way to quench Iowa fans’ thirst for a return to respectability.
