Games can’t always be won or lost in a quarter, but two were Saturday in Jesup. The AGWSR Cougar girls were shutout in the first quarter on their way to a 48-33 loss in Jesup. The boys fell 54-48 to the J-Hawks after letting a tie through three quarters evaporate.

The girls’ game was probably considered a toss-up heading in. Both North Iowa Cedar League squads, AGWSR in the West and Jesup in the East, were 10-4. But with a scoreless first quarter, the hosts set the tone.
