Taylor Sperfslage

Taylor Sperfslage raced home with the seventh of eight Cougar runs in the fifth inning Tuesday. The outburst followed a brief rain delay, and led to a 9-5 Cougar win over Mason City Newman.

It was supposed to be a triangular of softball games in Ackley Tuesday night as AGWSR hosted Mason City Newman and Belmond-Klemme. Rain nearly washed away all three games. It did wash the B-K and MCN game out in the third, and cancelled the Cougars and B-K game in the nightcap.

But the opening game, between sixth-rated AGWSR (11-3) and the 15th-ranked Knights (5-9), finished with the Cougars winning 9-5. The hosts were down and seemingly dead in the water before a brief rain delay. Once play resumed, the Cougars exploded for eight runs.
