Kyle Arends

Defeat was snatched from the jaws of victory Monday evening in Hampton.

Playing a solid baseball game, visiting Iowa Falls-Alden built a 6-2 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning versus Hampton-Dumont.

But the Bulldogs did no go quietly, plating five runs in the seventh, including a walk-off single to sink the Cadets by a 7-6 final.

IF-A Skipper Brendon McNulty said his team did a good job of putting the ball in play offensively, but the pitch count rule forced the team to remove starting pitcher Kyle Arends. The junior had struck out 11 batters when he was removed with two runners on base in the seventh.

"Kyle (Arends) commanded his fastball well tonight and hit his spots almost all night," McNulty said. "We put the ball in play pretty well tonight and we put pressure on the defense when we were on base. We had a couple base running mistakes that led to outs."

Jackson French came on in relief but was saddled with the loss. He was also 3-3 at the plate with a pair of RBI. RJ Ford also produced one hit and an RBI in the loss.

The Cadets dropped to 5-8 overall with the road loss.
