Carter Arends

Starting pitcher Carter Arends matched Gilbert's Easton Johnson - a Creighton recruit - with zeros for three innings of Friday's Class 3A District opener in Tiger Country. Sixth-ranked Gilbert exploded for an 11-run fourth inning to win the game, 11-0 in five innings.

Iowa Falls-Alden's baseball program has not produced a postseason win since the summer of 2012, when the Cadets reached the substate final versus A-D-M Adel.

Due to a lack of regular season wins, the team's postseason draw has placed them in the crosshairs of highly ranked teams such as top-ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier (2019) and Friday's Class 3A District First Round foe - sixth-ranked Gilbert.
