On a tour of three ranked foes in row, Ellsworth Community College dropped their second decision in as many games – falling 88-66 to No. 17 Kirkwood Community College.
Kirkwood Community College is ranked No. 1 for a reason. The Eagles are currently 19-1 and average 76 points per game – 16th in the nation. The defense forced 27 turnovers as they ran away with an 89-39 win over Ellsworth Community College.
It wasn’t the finish that raucous crowd wearing matching black t-shirts wanted, but it was the result they all came for. Student-favorite Darrell Mason ignited the already loud crowd with an opening takedown against Iowa Central’s Boone McDermott, but ended up losing 9-2.
Both NIACC teams came in to Iowa Falls with national top 10 rankings. Though one of the games was closer than the other, the Trojans left Ellsworth Community with a sweep.
One quarter took Ellsworth Community College out of contention for its first win of the season.
The first two times Ellsworth Community College and Dakota County Technical College played each other, the Blue Knights won by a combined 21-points.
