A fifth consecutive shutout loss was bearing down on the Iowa Falls-Alden girls as Monday's North Central Conference rematch with Hampton-Dumont moved into the sixth inning.
Less than one week after falling to the Bulldogs at home by a 7-0 final, the Cadets finally broke through with a pair of runs in both the sixth and seventh frames.
That turned a 1-0 deficit into a 4-1 win. The Cadets held on in the bottom of the seventh to claim a 4-3 victory, improving to 6-10 overall.
After H-D botched a first and third situation, the visitors were able to plate the first run. Ellie Baker drove in one of her three RBI's with a sac fly to right field to knot the score at 2-2.
In the seventh, Alex Cearley and Grace Renaud both reached base to lead off the inning and came around to score.
Elise Osman allowed two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but was able to escape further damage to preserve the victory. She finished with seven strikeouts and only one walk.
Both teams combined for only nine hits, with Noelle Katschke adding the other RBI.
