Alberto Salmeron

Cadet senior Alberto Salmeron earned a medal with this blood round win over North Fayette Valley's Joel Grimes. He went on to finish sixth at 138 in Class 2A.

The Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets entered the 2020 Iowa State Wrestling Championships with one State medalist, and left Saturday with a different one. While the tournament was rough on senior Riley Burke’s bid for a second medal, Alberto Salmeron made up for it.

The senior 138-pounder was bounced to the backside of the bracket, along with teammates Brody Hoversten (120), Cayden Howland (145) and Burke (152) after all of them reached Friday’s quarterfinals but lost. Only Salmeron went on to place, taking sixth.

Riley Burke

Riley Burke, who placed at State last year, was bumped early with a second round consolation loss to North Pol's Logan Engebretson.

Cayden Howland

Cayden Howland dropped his quarterfinal match to eventual state champion Hayden Taylor of Solon Friday. He went on to lose his blood round match, ending his tournament a win away from a medal.

Brody Hoversten

Brody Hoversten scored this late first period reversal to take a 6-3 lead over Williamsburg's Kayden Gryp in a Class 2A consolation second round match. He went on to take a 20-10 loss, ending his first State meet as a sophomore.
