Masks at games 1

Members of the Iowa Falls-Alden student section wore face-coverings during a recent home football game on Sept. 4. Since the arrival of the novel coronavirus, Pat Norem admits there have been plenty sleepless nights that have reminded him of his tenure as head coach of the Iowa Falls-Alden football program.

Norem - like hundreds of other high school activities directors in the state - has shouldered an extra emotional burden of preparing protocols at home athletic events, measures they hope are safe for athletes, coaches and family members.

The North Iowa Cedar League-West issued each member school’s guidelines for volleyball. East Marshall, Grundy Center and South Hardin require face coverings, while AGWSR and BCLUW encourage mask-wearing, but have not issued a mandate. Gladbrook-Reinbeck requires either a face covering or social distancing of at least six feet.
